The area features a life-size T-Rex replica, giant tree houses, and kid-size playhouses. It is also home to a 25-foot cascading waterfall. Families can enjoy the natural beauty and enjoy a cool beverage at The Oasis concession stand.

Visitors can see over 2,000 animals from around the world in the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. The Riverbanks Zoo is operated by the Rich-Lex Riverbanks Park Special Purpose District, a partnership between the city of Columbia and Richland and Lexington counties. It opened on April 25, 1974 after five years of planning. Though the zoo was not self-supporting at first, the Riverbanks Zoological Society was formed to raise funds for the institution. As of today, the Columbia-area zoo is one of the largest nonprofit zoo societies in the United States per capita.
